On Sunday, the Hinnant family were enjoying a nice evening outside. Their five-year-old son was playing in the yard and crossed into his neighbors’ yard.
A move that cost the child his life. Darius Sessoms, the Hinnant’s neighbor, came up to young Cannon and shot him in the head before fleeing the scene.
Cannon’s seven and eight-year-old siblings watched the whole thing happen. Sessom was caught and charged with first-degree murder without bail.
But what makes this whole story even more sickening is the fact that the mainstream media are silent. Somehow promoting Biden and Harris’ every move and word and bashing President Trump has remained the hot topic and completely overshadowed the fact that a child was shot in the head.
But let’s take this a step further shall we? When George Floyd was murdered, before even knowing if the incident was racially motivated, people all over the world started calling for justice, claiming racism, and burning down buildings. Floyd didn’t deserve to die, but he was far from innocent.
He had previously left his family and held a pregnant woman at gunpoint. He was arrested for passing a counterfeit bill when the incident took place.
What was five-year-old Cannon Hinnant doing when he was shot execution-style? Playing in the yard. Where is the media outrage? Where is the anger?
There is none because the person that was murdered was white. If a white man had shot a little black boy, the world would once again be in ruins.
Protests, looting, and violence would once again take place, but I’m guessing on an even larger scale since a child has been murdered. But since none of that has happened, it begs the question, is it okay that the child was murdered since he was white?
Now, don’t get me wrong. I am in no way calling for violence. Murder is murder no matter the skin color. That shouldn’t be the first thing we look at when something awful has taken place.
We don’t know that race was in any way the cause of this murder, any more than we did about Floyd, yet in very similar circumstances, the media is silent. Except I would say this incident is even worse. The victim, in this case, was a child who had done absolutely nothing wrong.
I’m not calling for violence, but I am calling for justice. Break the silence on this heinous murder. Cannon Hinnant. Say. His. Name.
