President Biden tripped and fell as he attempted to board Air Force One on Friday, at one point seeming barely able to right himself. While this inability to climb the short steps is concerning, The Federalist Papers points out how then-candidate Biden mocked President Trump for gingerly descending a steep ramp about a year ago.
Heading to Georgia from Joint Base Andrews, Biden stumbled a total of three times before making it to the top of the steps. The Daily Caller posted the embarrassing moment on Twitter:
Here is a look back at President Trump cautiously descending the ramp after making some remarks at West Point. At the time, the media, including the New York Times, called Trump’s health into question while breathlessly reporting the story.
Interestingly, the media has largely ignored President Biden’s missteps, but the internet is an entirely different story. There have been countless memes starring Biden poking fun at his footing failures, with some pointing out that Instagram seemed to crash shortly after Biden’s tumbles started making an appearance online.
The Babylon Bee jokingly suggested that the administration consider adding a chair lift to the Air Force One steps to avoid any future trouble for Biden.
Even Donald Trump Jr. got in on the fun with a video showing POTUS45 golfing and seemingly striking Biden with his golf balls, causing multiple stumbles. Media outlet The Hill felt it was necessary to clarify that the video shared by Trump Jr. was edited.
The White House chimed in on Biden’s lack of stability by pointing out that it was quite windy on Friday, implying this was the cause of his challenges. Deputy press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said, “It’s pretty windy outside. It’s very windy. I almost fell coming up the steps myself.”
