Caitlyn Jenner announced on Friday her plans to run for governor of California as a Republican.
“I’m in! California is worth fighting for,” said Jenner.
Jenner has also hired several prominent Republican advisors to oversee her campaign.
Her advisors include 2016 and 2020 Trump presidential campaign pollster Tony Fabrizio as well as Steven Cheung, a Trump White House and re-election campaign who also worked for Arnold Schwarzenegger’s successful 2003 recall election victory.
“California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality,” said Jenner on her website. “But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision.”
Jenner joins a crowded Republican field in the recall effort. John Cox, the 2018 governor nominee, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, and former Rep. Doug Ose all have launched campaigns.
