Vice President Mike Pence gave a speech to open up the session of Congress, condemning the violence that took place at the Capitol building.

“To those who wreaked havoc in our capital today, you did not win,” Pence said. “Violence never wins. Freedom wins. And this is still the people’s house.”

Mike Pence: "The capital is secured, and the people’s work continues… To those who wreaked havoc in our capital today, you did not win. Violence never wins. Freedom wins. And this is still the people’s house…. Let's get back to work."

Soon to be Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell released a statement as well calling the crowd who stormed the building “unhinged.”

“We’ve never been deterred before,” McConnell said. “And we won’t be deterred today. They tried to disrupt our democracy, they failed…this failed insurrection only underscores how crucial the task before us is for our republic.”

The United States and the Senate will not be intimidated.
