Hunter Biden said that he is “100% certain” the Department of Justice (DOJ) will clear him in their investigation into his finances during an interview on “CBS Sunday Morning.”
The interview came ahead of a memoir Biden is releasing titled “Beautiful Things.”
During the interview, Biden did not discuss details regarding the investigation.
“But I can say this: I’m cooperating completely. And I’m absolutely certain — I’m 100% certain — that at the end of the investigation, I will be cleared of any wrongdoing,” claimed Biden. “And all I can do is cooperate and trust in the process.”
Biden also stated that his father, the current president, calls him every night and has for years.
“I’ll tell you why. Because he’s lost [loved ones],” said Biden. “He, like me, knows what it’s like not to be able to pick up the phone and talk to your son.”
The U.S Attorney’s Office based out of Delaware is investigating Biden’s tax affairs, which Fox News reported in December. The investigation started in 2018.
“I learned yesterday for the first time that the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware advised my legal counsel, also yesterday, that they are investigating my tax affairs,” said Biden in December. “I take this matter very seriously but I am confident that a professional and objective review of these matters will demonstrate that I handled my affairs legally and appropriately, including with the benefit of professional tax advisors.”
President Biden, Hunter’s father, claims that he will recuse himself of intervening into the investigation. The Department of Justice kept U.S Attorney David Weiss, who is currently overseeing the investigation into the president’s son, despite calling for the resignation of all prosecutors appointed by the Trump administration.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that this decision not to ask for Weiss’s resignation was to “fulfill his promise of maintaining independence” regarding the investigation.
