The vote comes after Greene’s old social media posts resurfaced. Greene alleged that the 2018 Parkland School shooting was a “false flag” while claiming the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting was “staged.” She also claimed that she was “told that Nancy Pelosi tells Hillary Clinton several times a month that ‘we need another school shooting’ in order to persuade the public to want strict gun control,” according to Media Matters.

Greene spoke to her colleagues before the vote, telling them that she is a “very regular American.”

“I started seeing things in the news that didn’t make sense to me, like Russian collusion, which are conspiracy theories also and have been proven so,” Greene said. “These things bothered me deeply. And I realized just watching CNN or Fox News, I may not find the truth.”

“And so what I did was start looking up things on the Internet, asking questions like most people do every day,” Greene continued. “… And I stumbled across something in 2017 called Q’Anon.”

Greene emphasized she regretting her social media activity in the past while admitting the school shootings and 9/11 were “real.”

“School shootings are absolutely real,” Greene said. “And every child that is lost, those families mourn it … I also want to tell you 9/11 absolutely happened.”

Democrats demanded that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy remove Greene from her posts or they would force a vote.

McCarthy had met with Greene earlier this past week and asked her to apologize. He declined to take any disciplinary action against Greene

Greene apologized to her fellow GOP colleagues for her past social media comments and at one point even received a standing ovation from some, according to The Hill.
