President Donald Trump announced yesterday that he will be holding a rally on January 4th (the day before the senate runoffs) for Sens. Kelly Loeffler (R) and David Perdue (R).
The Republican National Committee has dubbed the event “The Victory Rally.” The rally be will held in Dalton, GA and kickoff at 7 P.M. Speakers include Trump, Perdue, and Loeffler.
Trump went down to Valdosta, GA on December 5th on behalf of both Senators and called the upcoming runoff “the most important congressional runoff, probably in American history.” Loeffler and Perdue are pitted against Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.
The winners of the runoffs will determine which party maintains control of the U.S. Senate. As of right now, Republicans hold 50 seats. This means that the Democrats would have to win both seats to create a deadlock. The tie-breaking vote in the Senate is the sitting Vice President. If Joe Biden does take office, that would be Kamala Harris, giving Democrats the advantage.
Both Democratic candidates have raised significantly more money than Loeffler and Perdue. Warnock and Ossoff have reeled in over $210 million the past two months. The Republicans have only brought in $132 million.
The Trafalgar Group, a polling group run by Robert C. Cahaly, shows Loeffler leading Warnock by 6.7% and Perdue up by 2.7%. According to the poll, 2.3% of voters are undecided in both race.
More than two million people have already voted in the runoff, suggesting this runoff could produce record voter turnout.
