The NFL recently honored Dreasjon Reed, who shot at police officers on Facebook Live according to an investigation conducted by the Indiana State Police, as part of its “Inspire Change” campaign.
Reed, who performed two drive-by shootings with a stolen firearm, the same one he used to shoot at police officers, is 1 of 87 mentioned in the NFL’s campaign, which highlights “victims of systematic racism, victims of police misconduct, and social justice heroes.”
“Say His Name: Dreasjon Reed. Reed is one of the many individuals being honored by players and coaches this season through the NFL’s helmet decal program,” tweeted the NFL.
According to the Indiana State Police investigation, text messages from Reed’s phone showed he was involved with two-drive by shootings. The investigation linked bullet casings from the scene to his pistol. No one was injured during these shootings, but several vehicles were damaged.
During a police chase, Reed fired two shots at a police officer. The police officer fired 13 shots of his own during the chase. The family claims that Reed never fired any shots and claimed that a grand jury decision not to prosecute the officer is evidence that the “justice system is unfair to black people.” Evidence from the Indiana State Police proved this to not be true at all. Evidence presented on Nov. 10 from the Indiana State Police showed that Reed carried a firearm, used it to shoot at an officer, and had used it in the past.
Indiana State Police firearm experts were able to recover a scratched off serial number from the gun. The serial number revealed that the firearm was stolen from a pawn shop in Texas. Investigators had evidence that Reed was the man who stole the firearm from the pawn shop.
“He stole it,” said Indiana State Police Lt. Jeff Hearon. “We actually got the report, the actual police report from that pawn shop and we got the still images from their surveillance video of him taking that gun.”
Currently only one NFL player wears a helmet decal of Reed, Colts linebacker Matthew Adams.
