Musician Van Morrison is once again speaking out against oppressive COVID lockdowns that continue to cause massive hardships for most citizens while pointing out that politicians “haven’t missed a paycheck” since governments began their extreme lockdowns. “Remember, those who are shutting down our economy haven’t missed a paycheck since lockdown began. We are not in this together,” he tweeted.

Pointing out the lack of science backing up the continued closures, Morrison tweeted, “10 months on and the @niexecutive still hasn’t presented the science for the Northern Ireland lockdown,” referencing the Northern Ireland Executive, the administrative branch of the legislature in the artist’s home country.

Let’s not forget COVID didn’t wreck the economy, the @niexecutive did, and we’re still waiting for their evidence.

Van Morrison has been all but silent on his opposition to COVID restrictions, recently releasing a song with fellow UK musician, Eric Clapton.  The song, titled “Stand and Deliver,” is a blaring reproach aimed squarely at elected officials that, rather than work for their constituents, have oppressed them, with no relief in sight. This latest track is the fourth installment in a series of anti-lockdown songs, with other titles including “No More Lockdown,” “Born to Be Free,” and “As I Walked Out.”

The lyrics begin with a battle cry to action, encouraging all citizens to speak up:

Stand and deliver
You let them put the fear on you
Stand and deliver
But not a word you heard was true
But if there’s nothing you can say
There may be nothing you can do

Another verse warns of the sheer disregard political figures are displaying for UK’s founding documents, mentioning the Bill of Rights and the Constitution:

Magna Carta, Bill of Rights
The constitution, what’s it worth?
You know they’re gonna grind us down, ah
Until it really hurts
Is this a sovereign nation
Or just a police state?
You better look out, people
Before it gets too late

Proceeds from “Stand and Deliver” will benefit Morrison’s Lockdown Financial Hardship Fund, a charity created by the artist to help musicians struggling to stay afloat.

These lyrics are particularly poignant as many in the U.S. believe their Constitutional rights are being trampled on with the tirade of lockdowns in effect in our own country since mid-March, while elected officials dictating the seemingly perpetual closures have yet to miss a paycheck.
