House Democrats plan on introducing articles of impeachment against President Trump on Monday, the office of Democratic Rep David Cicilline told Fox News.

The articles have reached a total of 185 co-sponsors, the vast majority of the 222-person Democratic caucus in the house.

UPDATE to the update: We’ve just hit 180 cosponsors of the Article of Impeachment drafted by Rep @davidcicilline, @RepRaskin, me and @HouseJudiciary staff.

We will introduce the Article of Impeachment this Monday during the House’s pro forma session. https://t.co/qm7LmXhOgK

Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats have called on Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump from office via the 25th Amendment or for President Trump to resign.

“It is the hope of members that the president will immediately resign,” said Pelosi in a statement Saturday on impeachment. “But if he does not, I have instructed the Rules Committee to be prepared.”

Some Republicans have called for Trump’s removal. Republican Rep. Adam Kinzinger called for the President to be removed via the 25th Amendment. Sen. Ben Sasse has said he would “definitely consider” impeachment articles if they were brought fourth

Sen. Lisa Murkowski called for Trump to resign on Friday and said Trump’s leadership of the GOP has her questioning her membership in the Republican party.

“I want him to resign. I want him out. He has caused enough damage,” said Murkowski in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News.

“I think he should leave. He said he’s not going to show up. He’s not going to appear at the inauguration. He hasn’t been focused on what is going on with COVID,” said Murkowski, “He’s either been golfing or he’s been inside the Oval Office fuming and throwing every single person who has been loyal and faithful to him under the bus, starting with the vice president. He doesn’t want to stay there. He only wants to stay there for the title. He only wants to stay there for his ego. He needs to get out. He needs to do the good thing, but I don’t think he’s capable of doing a good thing.”

It is unlikely that impeachment would make it through both the House and Senate by the 20th, but despite this, Mitch McConnell has sent out a memo to GOP senators about how an impeachment trial would occur, according to the Washington Post.

The memo states that the Senate would not come back in session for important business until Jan. 19th. The scenario would work like this:

Jan. 19: The Senate would get the House memo advising the Senate that it has appointed impeachment managers, and the Senate would be ready to get the document.
Jan. 19 or Jan. 20: House impeachment managers would exhibit the impeachment articles.
Jan. 20 or Jan. 21: The Senate would move toward considering the articles at 1 p.m. and officially start the trial.

The trial would start after Trump’s term has expired, either one hour after his term ends or twenty-five hours after his term ends.
