Less than 100 days after Joe Biden’s inauguration, the official Black Lives Matter organization has taken a new stance on his presidency. The organization stated that communities are now being “terrorized” more under Biden than during Donald Trump’s presidency.
The Black Lives Matter organization reported recently that Biden is “sending more military equipment to our neighborhoods than Trump did”. “Biden’s first 100 days are up in 10 days. “By then we need him to #End1033, which transfers military equipment into the hands of police across the country – including school & campus police” their official Twitter account mentioned in a tweet.
The Black Lives Matter official Twitter page has also asked its followers to sign a petition insisting that “Biden demilitarize our neighborhood and #End1033, a program that began in 1997 under the National Defense Authorization Act.”
Black Lives Matter went on to refer to police as “violent upholders of white supremacy” and that military style weapons and equipment “especially have no place in the hands of police”. “With the stroke of a pen, President Biden can put an end to the dangerous practice of enabling and upholding white supremacy through the 1033 Program” the organization also stated.
A month after the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris held a meeting within their administration that included multiple civil rights groups, however Black Lives Matter did not receive an invitation. They insisted that Biden and Harris meet with the organization because they “deserve a seat at the table.”
On the eve of election night 2020, the official Black Lives Matter organization sent the President-elect and Vice President-elect a letter congratulating them on their victory and requesting a meeting with the two. At 32 days later, the organization still had not received a response.
